Flow cytometry core facility

The CHUM Research Centre offers a full range of multiparametric cell analysis services, including high-throughput cell sorting in a biosafety level 3 (BSL 3) containment suite that allows researchers to sort cells from patients infected with HIV, HCV, or other viruses.

This service is available to researchers from academic, hospital and industrial settings.

Our services include:

  • High speed cell sorting for the purification of discrete primary cell subsets (peripheral blood or other tissues) or cell lines.
  • Multi-parametric analysis of cells and other particles: simultaneous analysis of several functional parameters in combination with surface markers. This allows identification and analysis of complex systems such as new mechanisms of cell immunity and viral pathogenesis.

Cell sorting – infectious and non-infectious samples

Two BD ARIAII cell sorters, one of which is located in a BSL3 containment suite.

  • Simultaneous purification of up to 4 different cell subsets, isolation of cell clones in 96-well plates, or cell sorting directly on slides for various applications.
  • 3 lasers (488nm, 633nm & 405nm) enable the analysis of up to 10 different fluorochromes.

Our equipment is maintained under RNAse-free and sterile conditions, which allows subsequent cell culture and transcriptional studies.
Sorting is performed by an experienced technician.

Cell or particle analysis

Three flow cytometers are available for analysis of cells and particles by size, granularity and emitted fluorescence.

Computer analysis of flow cytometry data

The cytometry service provides two computers and a variety of software packages including Diva, Modfit and FCAP array for data analysis.

Training

In addition to offering basic training for access to the LSR II, we can also provide individualized training adapted to specific research projects.

Development and technical validation

We can help you get your projects underway and develop validation protocols adapted to your needs.
